I just purchased my first Capped Bust from DLRC. It has a Brown pedigree. I have been trying to find out which Brown this coin used to belong to. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Read your coin's pedigree again, as it should tell you which Brown you are asking about. That is the purpose of a pedigree.

I haven't received the coin yet. It simply says has the name Brown on slab. DLRC said it was ex:Brown collection on coins description. I honestly don't know if I will get a pedigree document.

If a Pedigree is mentioned in the sale of the coin then you should receive proof of that. Otherwise, I would have passed on the coin if you paid over and above a realistic price for the coin as the Pedigree itself will add to the price/value.

Luckily I didn't. Hopefully there is a pic of the coin I purchased with the name Brown on it. I assumed it was a pedigree. Maybe not. Image: 1834Brown AU55.jpg87.11 KB

if David Lawrence said in their description that it was from an ex Brown collection then it must be a pedigree, I just can't find any information about who it is. The only "Brown" I can find any information about was Samuel Brown and he was the original owner of all 5 1913 V nickels that are known

Hmmm. I wonder if it is Samual Brown. Well if push comes to shove I can always contact DLRC. I guess I will wait until I get the coin and see if a pedigree sheet comes with it. On the other hand I think NGC see should be able to tell me who "Brown" is.

Letters are also capitalized when they pertain to grades. Why can't it be a Brown AU coin?

JumR that is definately an option, NGC has a forum and you can go in there and ask them directly and they can probably tell you exactly who this "Brown" was. When you get to the NGC forums, just click on the ask NGC link and post the question and if possible post the picture there also and they should be able to give you the information you are seeking, their forums are moderated so your post will probably not show up as a question until a forum moderator looks at it and thinks its appropriate to post and you will probably get an answer at the same time the question shows up

I called NGC and found out the pedigree on my Capped Bust is Robinson S. Brown. My Capped Bust was sold by Superior on January 27, 1996. His forte was large cents as the bio below describes. Pretty cool eh!!!
Brown Jr., Robinson S. - (1917-2005) Brown spent nearly five decades with the Brown-Forman Distiller Corp. (Jack Daniels Whisky). He retired from the position of Chairman of the Board in 1982. "Robbie" began his interest in large cents in 1964 when he purchased sixteen different varieties from a dealer in New Orleans. He then acquired copies of Penny Whimsy and Newcomb's United States Copper Cents 1816-1857 and decided to collect all of the varieties and different die states between the years 1793 and 1857. He is the only person to have completed the Sheldon numbered series TWICE. His first collection was sold by Superior Galleries on September 30-October 1, 1986. His second collection was sold by Superior on January 27, 1996 (early and middle dates) and June 2, 2002 (late dates).

The information you have gathered should be placed with the coin and be a part of said piece. It, the description, probably adds as much value to the coin as the condition of the coin. Nice information to have and be able to show to prospective buyers, when the time comes to dispose of the coin.
Aren't you glad you ask?

My next step is to go to Superior and see if they have this Auction archived. If they do it will be great to see a picture of my coin in the archive. If they dont still have it archived do any of you know where a good place is to look for old auction catalogs?
