Hi, could I please have others grading on this coin. I am new to collecting and grading seems a little difficult to get my head around at this time, but if I were to try, would VF be an appropriate grade? Thank you.

G'day & welcome to CCF ! you can read "ADVANCE AUSTRALIA", which is good, but the emu's feathers are worn away; but you can't make out many details (pearls & diamonds) on the King's crown, which is not so good. I'd say somewhere beteen VG and F is fair. and this might help: The ANDA Coin Grading Guide. - http://www.anda.com.au/documents/re...%20coins.pdfsee the pics, which are conveniently of a florin, just like yours.

Thanks for the Welcome Pete, and the pdf was very helpful and based on the your VG-F grading it seems that is a fair grade. Love the Auzzie coins, Thanks for your reply.

Welcome to the forum. I see you are in New Zealand. If you have a few spare 1935 threepences I will send you my address. As if! Seriously though, here are a few links to help you with grading; . Plenty more good links if you want to Google for them. Best thing to do is try to get a few of the same (or very similar date) coins and compare them with each other and rank them by grade. That gives you a good feel for what to look for. Basically, check the fine detail of the design (especially if it is in a high spot) because that is where the fastest wear is. Jeff PS. We were all new to this at some time and it does take quite a time to feel confident with grading. If you can find some on-line auction catalogues with good photos that is also a help. Disregard any grading mentioned in ebay listings -many are not to be trusted.
