From what I can tell , NGC is a bit easier to deal with as far as getting a MS70 grade is concerned. I have a few ASEs that I really feel are perfect. A few articles I read state that PCGS rarely if ever gives a coin a MS70 grade , even if it appears flawless.

I recently purchased a large batch of ASEs, some BU , some proof and some already graded ms69 by PCGS. I have been comparing the BU and MS coins to those that have been graded. In my opinion a few of the raw coins are in better condition than those that have been graded MS69, so my hope is to get a MS70 or two out of the entire lot. Also I feel that sending in the coins will help improve their value over having them unslabbed.

I'm of the opinion that 99% of the coins that come straight from the mint are already 69s or 70s, so why spend the extra money to have them slabbed? I personally do not believe in slabbing bullion coins.

With that being said, I too noticed that NGC gives more 70s. But, do we really believe that they take the time to examine each bullion coin that comes to them? Probably not. They most likely say, "We'll give ten percent of this lot a 70 designation, and the rest will be 69s."

I mean, for hecks sake, they see thousands and thousands of these things a day probably.

I like both but buy the coin not the holder.

These were bought as part of a extremely large lot of coins (my biggest purchase ever). I'm trying to subsidize the rest of the purchase by selling off a few of the ASEs. If any of these ASEs grade MS70 I can pay off a decent portion of what I bought.

Look at the pops of the 69 's and the 70's and consider this. As cheap as the 69's are, no one is going to send in indivudual coins unless they really believe they are 70's. (OK some will be from bulk shipments) So figure just a quarter of the coins sent in are non-bulk shipments. So divide the number of 70's by 1/4 of the total submissions and multiply by 100. The answer is the percentage of the "I'm sure it's a 70" coins that you send in that will actually come back as 70's. And remember that is what you get back if you are just sending in the cream of the crop. (By selecting 1/4 I'm being generous. If the fraction is larger then you get back an even smaller percentage.)
