Carl has a good point with distilled water, it may actually dissolved some of the rust. Be sure to rinse well with acetone afterward. Dehydration of the active corrosion and protection from humidity is extremely important.

I have no idea where to find 100% acetone....any ideas?

They should have 100% acetone at a hardware store, usually somewhere near the paints and stains. Nail polish remover usually has acetone in it, but even if it is labeled 100% acetone there will probably be additives (like Denatonium Benzoate).
