I have a couple of new penny rolls. What is the best way to store these in order for them to maintain their red color? Would it be alright if I placed each on in a 2x2 small cents cardboard holder?

Sure, you could put them 2x2's, but that is alot of time and effort. I would leave them in the paper wrappers, and keep the rolls in the bank box. I have heard that the clear shrink-wrap rolls are deadly for the long term storage (for the cents that is)!

Or if you have coin tubes, put the rolls in those, and then store the tubes in a safe place. This works well for long-term storage.

I too use those clear plastic tubes for coins. I tape the top shut so no air can get in. I've had many for about 30 or more years now.

I also recommend the clear coin tubes. I have a handful of these that I assembled in the mid 1980's. I had not looked at them in a while, but took some time to examine a few of the cent tubes this weekend. They still look as good as I remember.

The clear tubes are (fragile but) nice, how about the "square" frosted type? I am pretty sure that they are made of a different material.

Thanks for all the feedback. Found the clear tubes. The plastic ones that I got seems pretty sturdy. And with my next order I'll try the frosted type too.

Saran Wrap (plastic seal used for food) is worth it's weight on gold. I wrap up my modern penny rolls (unopened) as tight as possible (no air in the wrap) and store them in a dark/warm/dry location. I have some unopened mint rolls (Canadian) that are decades old and still blast "red", Thanks to food wrap. Remember: anything exposed to air will deteriorate, the trick is to keep "air" away from coinage! Glenn

I like the plastic square tubes, much easier to store. Like Carl, I put tape around the cap to help keep air out, then I put them into a heavy ziplock bag with a desiccant pack and finally into a tupper type container.

I used these desiccants back in the Y2K days..to store some food. Hey, you just didn't know what to expect. I'll look for these to buy for my coin storage. I Like the zip lock idea. Hopefully they'll work for storage with the dessicant. Thank you all for the suggestions. I love this community!
