A guy got this out of a belt buckle. As you can see he damaged it trying to retrieve it. What do you think the value on this 1895 O Morgan is? Also any suggestions on if I should do anything to it?

I would say $100 for an 1895O in this condition is pretty much the amount I would pay for one, so I think it was a fine deal.

What a shame that ended up in a belt buckle. Some people are just stupid!

I might try acetone, but I kinda doubt it would do much for this coin. Might be best just to keep or sell as is.

afclassic87, the person who put this coin in the belt buckle probably had no clue it was a very valuable coin. Or didn't care. Either way it has been released from its confines and can now be appreciated by a collector for what it is.

1895O is one of the semi-key dates for Morgans due to rarity. If it was say an 1881S, then you would be right.

reminds me of when I went to purchase my wife and I's wedding bands. Bought them from a jewellry store that was going on business so it was 30 cents to the dollar on everything in the store. They had a hand made bracelet in one of the display cases that was made out of common 1900-1910 silver dimes welded together. It was a beautiful bracelet but just the fact that so many old silver dimes were damaged in the making of it almost had me crying.
