If the poor sod who got robbed kept a list of serial numbers posted them.
We would spot them prety easily

I wonder what sort of "business", other than numismatic, would still be holding pre-1996 notes ?

Not sure about other states but here in QLD most secondhand shops have notes,sometimes just a few but some have cabinets full.
