timsumrall could very well be metal detector finds.
I used to tell the bank they the coins were corroded and damaged when I deposited them in rolls..
They still just put them in their change draw.
So now I don't bother.

They are supposed to send them to be destroyed I guess its too much work.

I haven't had this happen with cents before, but I have with nickels. Too damaged/corroded so the bank refused to take them. The teller told me to try and use them when paying through a drive-thru or something. I've pawned off lots of cruddy stuff that way.

Just make sure you explain to the bank what these are.

Personally, I'd put them into a coin counter just as they are without cleaning.

Coinstar them--it cannot detect corrosion.

A rock tumbler will fix your problem. And best part you'll still be able to search most of them. Granted their not completely corroded. I've seen better DIY videos but here's one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU6N...ature=relmfu Hope this helps. Heres a link to where you can find a small and large rock tumbler. https://www.harborfreight.com just search the site for rock tumbler. Good Luck if you do go this route please post pics. Thanks. Would love to see!
