Is this something I haven't seen before. I feel like an idiot for even posting this, but I have never seen a "new" coin like this. I also can't find any other links to what it may be. Sorry about the dust on the 2X2.

Thanks,

Tighe

I have received hundreds of Colorado quarters, Denver mint. In fact, I even bought a bunch at the launch of the Colorado quarter in Denver.

However, I have never seen a "golden" quarter, and suppose someone plated it.

Thanks for the reply Gary. I plan on working on my photographic skills this weekend, so I will post some better pics. I would assume if it is "plated", it may weigh more than normal. Even an anodize adds weight to things. That being said, I don't have a scale, but it actually seems lighter than normal. No clue, but I will post more pictures tomorrow at some point.

that thing looks almost like it was put on a Sacagawea dollar planchet to me because even the size looks different

Edited: I looked at a quarter and a Sacky side by side and I am pretty sure that is what you have here, because the size is close but the rim is thicker on your quarter which in my mind would be how a quarter stamped on a sacky planchet would look. If this is the case that is a very very good find and could be worth a pretty good bit (I think upwards of $100.00 but I am going by prices of simular items but this may be less or more according to how many have been found and other factors) If you could weigh the coin and find that it weighs the same as a sacky then that would pretty much confirm my thoughts but I am definately no expert I am just giving an opinion, and if it is the same weight I would probably send it off for authentication/grading

I was thinking wrong planchet too. Very interesting. Did you find this or buy it?

Here is a quarter on top of a Sacagawea to show how thick the rim would be and since the coin is in a 2x2 it is a little hard to tell 100% either way but I think it could be a good possibility

Unfortunately I do not have a scale to weigh the thing, but I will be looking for one this weekend, as well as my photo set-up. That being said, I have a hard time believing it is even real considering it feels lighter than normal. we'll see I guess. I bought it in one of those stupid auctions on ebay that was a "lot" for sale. Paid $20 and received a whole mess of coins and old silver. Believe it or not, I was probably one of the lucky people because the silver value alone was three times the cost + shipping. Will be the last one of those though....I will post more when I have more info for everyone.

The rim looks normal to me albeit slightly off center,, Its is a plated quarter in my opinion.

I agree with Metalman, I think that it is also plated. I hope that I am wrong on this one. If its plated then it is only worth a quarter. I would go to a reputable coin dealer and get his opinion.

It doesn't seem to be a different size. Here is another pic. I will weigh it as soon as I can. Would plating it change the weight?

It is a plated quarter. A sacky planchet would not shine like that.....

Looks like plated to me as well, but hard to tell without getting it into hamd.
The weight is when plated almost the same, the plating would take abouth 0,2 gram for a quarter

I have one like this that is a State Quarter which I was told by a coin dealer it was plated. He also said it would only be worth the 25 cents if I were to try and get rid of it......but I think it's unique so I am holding onto it just to look at. Plated or not.
