Yes, many would say this was the first "official" NCLT - made for collectors only... Issued in 1967 to mark the 100th anniversary of Canada's confederation. 334,288 specimens were minted.
90% Au, 10% Cu. 18.27g, 27.05 mm diameter and 2.3 mm thick.
Worth maybe $990.00 USD.

Likely the gold $20 that came with the 1967 centennial proof set. Looks to be in great shape! The set with the gold coin was issued for $40 and is worth ~$700 today according to 2011 Haxby & Willey. *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***Yikes, My bad!

thanks for the feedback so far!
it is in great shape, doesn't look to have any fingerprints on it and its been in the case with the set since I found it - ripped out an old shelf and behind it was stashed away with a few other goodies =]

Definitely. Maybe look for the rest of the set (~$50) and case from 1967

Quote: so is this something that I should consider keeping around for a few more years? The value of this set strictly follows the price of gold and silver. So, think of it in those terms. If you don't need the money, and if there is sentimental value attached to it, perhaps in your family's hands since 1967, then keep it.

Quote: so is this something that I should consider keeping around for a few more years Well, it depends on your expectations. This particular coin never commanded any major numismatic premium above and beyond its gold content, and will not likely do so in the future. Unless these $20 continue to be melted and eventually become a rarity. If you think that gold is about to tank, then maybe you should consider selling it. You may get close to bullion on ebay. It also depends on your taste for NCLT. The design itself is OK and if you like it, then all for the better. But there isn't any "series" to collect, or theme that even resembles this odd ball release - which didn't even portray wildlife as per the other commemorative coins of 1967. A nice coin to own for its historical value; Canada's first official NCLT. (Although some would argue that pre-67 specimen sets and PL sets were also made specifically for collectors).
