I posted this on another site and it was removed.I was wondering if this was the engraved colored quarter or was the paint removed.

It Looks incuse to me,but I can't tell if it's painted or not from the photo,I don't know how you would get the paint off without some evidence unless acetone disolves the pain't, maybe someone has tried it.

The mint made two versions of this coin, one had a red maple leaf the other did not.
The colourized version is the one to get if you can find it, if you do find one at a dealer be prepared to pay around $5.00 for it, at least thats what they are going for in this ares.

There are tons of these still in circulation. Both the engraved and painted, and unpainted and not engraved. Is there 3 varieties or is just my imagination?

The engraved with no paint is hard to find.I guess I opened my mouth too soon as I lost my bid on ebay. I hope someone here sniped it on me.

The colourized with the 2 raised on the leg is scarce. (about 300,000) The colourized with the 2 in its little space is common- 3 million, and the non-colourized is very common- about 19 million. (I am going by memory for the mintage figures)

There are also colourized and non-colourized quarters for:

Men's hockey
Women's hockey
Cindy Klassen

and two versions of the men's hockey colourized quarter.... with the raised "2" in 2002 and without raised "2".

Hello first post but I've been reading post off and on for a couple years.
Is this coin error rare or are there a lot of colored coins missing their color.
