I'm in Southern California, so I don't have to worry about the cold, but that is the time I really get back into my favorite way to find old coins... metal detecting. Sure I could do it in the summer too, but I hate being out in 90 degree heat digging holes in the sun so I get lazy. In the winter when it is in the 60s and 70s I love trying to find silver coins, wheats, and older nickels in parks. When I find a Merc,
Liberty nickel, etc. it is a thrill and I love thinking about how someone 50...60...even 100 years or more ago lost that coin, and there it sat until I found it!
