I spoke to Wendy at Colonial Acres today and she said:
"The cougar coin will be out in about 8 weeks. The mint has not even put it up for us to buy yet."

I spoke to Wendy at Colonial again today and she said she was mistaken. Instead of the cougars coming out mid-November, the first batch should be coming out next week!

Now that the cougars are showing up and you can check them out firsthand, has your view on their less than stellar appearance changed ? I wasn't impressed with the pics I saw , but now that I have one it looks a little better in hand.

Just checked with our bullion folks. The next and final batch of 99.99% pure silver, 2012-dated "Cougars" should be at our bullion distributors in the next 2 to 3 weeks. BTW, The "Cougar" is the third of a six-coin series of silver bullion coins celebrating Canada's Wildlife. It is limited to a mintage of one million coins and three more issues are scheduled to follow (one dated 2012 and two others dated 2013). Yes, the Royal Canadian Mint has spoken!

I have a question regarding RCM Bullion Coins. Why doesn't the Mint sell these coins like all the rest of their coins? I would prefer getting them from the Mint as opposed to dealers.

You're quite right. The Mint does not currently buy or sell bullion coins directly to the public. Selling bullion products is quite complex compared to selling numismatic products because prices of gold and silver bullion products are based on international market rates which vary daily. There's also the challenges related to bullion supply and demand. For these reasons, and for now, we prefer to rely on our established distribution network of bullion retailers.

Is 7-8 dollars above spot pretty standard for these? Seems high...
