I wanted to sell some Lincoln Shield Cents 2010-2011 P&D sets on ebay but I can't see how anyone would make anything off them with the BIN price, FVF, listing fee, and PayPal fees. With so many fees it really makes selling low cost items on ebay a non viable option.

Well, that's when you have to decide if it's worth it or not. If you want to make a profit, then you need to figure out how much you can charge while still paying ebay to use their service. The low-cost stuff I've sold on ebay is stuff I just want to get rid of. And I don't care if I make much of a profit or not, or at all. I find I still have fun, even if I merely break even or even lose a bit of money. And it does build up your seller ratings, which is always good.

There's some items I just can't bear to spend so I'll sell them on ebay for practically nothing.

Quote: I can't see how anyone would make anything off them with the BIN price, FVF, listing fee, and PayPal fees. No need for a BIN fee or a listing fee, then FVF and PP would be 12%. You can get 50 free listings a month and you can start the auction at any price. Think of it as a BIN with the potential to sell for more money than you hoped for Also, do not EVER give good money to ebay for pictures. You can use as many photos as you want for free as long as they are hosted by someone besides Ebay(Photobucket, ImageShack, etc).

Sounds like the last poster is wiser to these big conglomerates. I hate these monopolistic types of companies, when ebay was first getting going, other companies tried to compete to no avail, still craigslist laugh at ebay, but I can nary find a coin on craigslist, risky but for the wise. Do not underestimate craigslist, some of these guys that say they have a small collection to sell off, I wonder, just how much more they night have, but just figure anyone on craigslist is probably already broke. Still, even ebay has scammer and rip-off artists, helping them to perfect the game or whatever. This is a good OP, people need to be informed. One thing nice about ebay, you know you can move stuff, craigslist is a game of patience, understanding, and networking.

Build in your cost + 15%. I'm a power seller and I just calculated my July fee with ebay and paypal was 14.9% ( ebay reports option)....and I get a discount for being a power seller. Tack on the free postage I offer and materials and I'm about 20+% in selling costs. For me, I have to look at the flip side, I wouldn't have those sales without ebay and paypal. As they say, something is better than nothing. LOL

I hate ebay. The company rips you off and so do the buyers. I'm still steaming from the time a buyer contacted me outside of ebay and told me he'd rip me off. Then he started a case against me and lied...won of coarse...took my money...kept my expensive coin, and I'm still trying to get my money back from ebay, but there was absolutely no burden of proof on the buyer's part to take mine away. I hate paypal too. When my balance went into negative because of said large rip off I make a small purchase on ebay. Paypal popped up my screen saying "confirm" my payment of $7. My credit card statement had a fat charge on it because paypal had me cover my large ebay loss (before the case has even been finalized) and paypal didn't bother asking me when confirming the charge. Isn't that even illegal...it literally said $7 and charged me a large amount.
