An article about how unpopular the dollar coins is. Neat thing is that they have half a dozen pictures of bags of them in the Fed vault in Baltimore, MD.

One of the pictures shows a bag with 2 Susan B. Anthony's, one heads, one tails. If you look closely, you can see the tape. The photographer clearly taped the 2 Susie's to the outside of a full bag to get the picture he wanted.

(edited to link to the first page of the article instead of the second.

Who knows, maybe there are some bags of Ike dollars laying in there also. The government has millions of them stored somewhere.

This is really such a waste. That legislation should have included the phase out of the greenback. But since it does not, we're running out of storage for these useless and unwanted coins. Doesn't seem this plan wasn't well thought out. Now we're stuck with it. It's not likely that legislation will be changed to reduce production or to cease it all together. IMO this is a huge blunder.

Things I would change in a dollar coin program would be just go back to the Sacagawea design and put the date and mint mark back on the obverse of the coins. The reverse eagle design is great but I actually like the Statue of Liberty design but would be better with ONE DOLLAR instead of the token-like $1. Then get rid of the $1 green back.

If the fed doesn't want them I'd gladly take them off their hands

This won't all be a waste if they just STOP making dollar bills. If we are forced to use them, they WILL circulate
thats my 2 cents. When people complain about them thats my simple answer for them.
