I am just wondering if "body work" can be done on a badly damaged coin like the Julius Caesar coin below? It had a hole in it which has been plugged, but it is unsightly. Any suggestions?

I know of one person in the coin restoration business, Allen Stockton. As it is a highly skilled process, it is not something for inexpensive coins as the repair would cost more than the coin itself.
Rest in Peace

Pete Stockton (relationship?) and now Allen have been doing this work for 50 years or so.

with echizento. It's not too unsightly to me IMO, and to me it's still a decent looking coin.

The crudeness of the plug only adds to the overall aged look. I'd leave it be.
