Have 2 Nickels Look Like Proofs. - Coin Community Forum

Business(circulation) strike nickels were minted as San Francisco 1968-1970. There were also proof 1970-S nickels but they will looks significantly different from a normal coin- highly polished fields with some having a cameo effect on the devices and sharp squared rims with strong detail throughout from being struck twice at higher than normal pressure. I lived near SF from the late 70s-80s--and can't recall ever finding one quite like that. The surfaces on the bust are exceptional. Proof dies have short runs, and in the case of 1970-S which had both business and proof strikes--were older proof dies "retired" to strike circulation coins? Just wondering here--I don't know.
