I've been messing about with my camera and also with hosting images on a third party site so it seemed like a good opportunity to post these. They are also the first I've bought in about 6 months.

Unfortunately my two 'invasion coins' of Galerius and Constantius have not arrived yet. Despite looking out of the window for the postman every 10 minutes today they did not come! Go figure, its become embarrassingly like waiting for Santa.

I'll post these when they do arrive along with a couple more Sols I'm waiting for. They might not be everyones cup of tea but I like my coins to look like they have been used for the purpose they were created, have nice patinas but most importantly they need to be priced right!

IMP C CONSTATINVS P F AVG | SOLI IN-VI-CTO COMITI | MOSTS | 312-313
One of the few issues from Ostia, workshop 2 in this case - RIC VI Ostia 83

A-Few-Recent-Aquisitions
IMP CONSTATINVS P F AVG | SOLI INVI-C-TO COMITI | P | ST | 317-318
A Ticinum issue, WS 2. Much like the above, not rare but not as common as the others - RIC VII Ticinum 68

A-Few-Recent-Aquisitions
CONSTANTINVS P F AVG | SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI | TF | PTR | 310-313
I only bought this because the pictures were so blurred I couldn't work out what it was, glad I did as it was only £5 and its a huge and very complete example of an albeit very common coin, 24mm and 6 grams! - RIC VI Trier 875

A-Few-Recent-Aquisitions
CONSTANTINVS AVG | SOLI IN-VICTO | PTR | 310-311
Probably the one I'm most happy with even though its in pretty poor shape and only cost £3 inc P+P! Its a pretty rare half-follis issue from Trier around 310-311 bearing only 'SOLI INVICTO' on the reverse, compare its dimensions with the Trier follis above, 18mm and 2 grams - RIC VI Trier 898/900
If anyone knows anything else about these half-follis Trier coins I'd be interested to hear from you.

A-Few-Recent-Aquisitions
FLAV MAX - FAVSTA AG | SALVS REI-PVBLICAE | PLON | 324-325
A very interesting coin showing Fausta with Constantine II and Constantius II as infants.
The only Salus Reipublicae issue to feature Fausta made at london - RIC VII London 300
Jamesicus sent me this one, if your reading this mate I'll be getting your parcel in the post tomorrow

I've not double checked the RICs yet on most of these so they may not be 100%.

Forgot to add the two Trier coins were also found in the UK - again something I like when picking coins to buy.

I love the patina on all of the coins. Gorgeous coins. I'm not sure of your reasoning for collecting the coins, but I, too, love the patinas. They tell a whole story, such as where they were when found. I'm only slightly partial to desert patina, but I will take any one of these coins when you decide to part with them.

I like coins in as pristine condition as I can get. I have a Sep. Severus coin which looks like it was struck yesterday and I may have shown here already. But, for me, those coins are generally out of reach, so I get as good as the wallet can afford. I recently purchased an Otho that set me back a pretty penny, but it's not pristine. It is what I can afford (and maybe more).

I truly do love your coins. I like to find coins from Trier as I have been there many times. Thanks for sharing your coins.

Nice coins and pictures. I haven't seem to master picture taking, hence my images are terrible.

Mine are usually pretty poor too, I use a decent quality compact camera but it can take me a long time to get it to do what I want. I dont fancy spending a fortune on a new camera, I'd rather have coins!

I took these using a suggestion by Doug Smith in a different thread, that was to elevate the coin from the background. These pics were taken on a windowsill in natural daylight (this is Britain so thats prob dull sunlight to the rest of you!) with the coin sitting on the end of a pencil. Sounds odd but worked a treat, the above were taken quickly with the camera hand held, I bet if I spent a bit more time I could improve the pics more.

Galerius Invasion coin arrived today.

C VAL MAXIMIANVS NOB C | GENIO POPV - LI ROMANI | RIC VI, Lugdunum, No. 17b. Minted 296.

Very slightly oval flan, I'd say about 50% silvering, 28mm 9.1 grams.

An excellent coin with very a emotive history. Particularly like the fact that there is a good chance this was carried across the English Channel in 296 by the invading Roman war machine. 1715 years ago to the month.
