It does help - I'm happy now that there is nothing; left of bust, under horse, in left field reverse.

I think we are now left with just 6:

Sirmium 49 or 53
Siscia 351 or 354
Aquileia 200 or 203

It might sound crazy but style wise I would lean towards Sirmium. looking at a limited number of examples your bust and the arm curving wide around the spear on the reverse make me feel that way.

Its late here now so will look again in the morning to see if I still feel the same.

This is the 'Challenge coin' so it would be a shame to stop here

Well, slept on it and may be able to add a bit more. I'm also still happy with the assumptions that got it down to 10 coins.

Here is your mintmark:

I think I can see: ?, Top of an 'S', ?, ?, Top of an 'M'.

The only remaining coins that this fits with are from Sirmium, reassuring as that was what the style looked like to me anyway:

Sirmium 49 - ASIRM or BSIRM
Sirmium 53 - BSIRM dot

I think there may be enough detail on the first character to have a good guess at it being 'A' or 'B' but I wouldn't like to say either way.

Not bad considering what we started with!

Wow, I must say that I am impressed that anything could be deciphered from this coin. So bravo, everyone!

I never thought anyone would be able to attribute this coin, but I believe through the collaborative effort we have it narrowed down to one coin, with two possible shops. I couldn't ask for more. Thanks to all

As luck would have it, I have a Sirmium Gallus Falling Horseman. Realizing there are probably a thousand dies of such a common coin this will not be a 100% match but it can be used to compare.
