For my enjoyment of Mexican numismatics and to recognize "El dia de la Independencia" el Diez y seis de Septiembre.

Enjoy this scan of a beautiful artistic and historical note.

I've enjoyed that bill ever since I first saw it. I hardly ever see bills vertical like that. Amazing it's cotton and not polymer, with all the polymer issues in Mexico. The $100 and $200 are gas money; they should be heavily counterfeit-proof.
Most of you can't see it, but there's a liberty cap on the reverse bottom left corner.

Have you been to their website and seen their videos. If you do the original Spanish site it is better and offers more that the translated English as it drops some of its features.

Nice, indeed. And I believe I've seen that statue in person.

Hope this topic isn't out of place here, but it's the only reference I have seen to Mexican banknotes. Picked up some of the 1992 first issue of Nuevos Pesos AA serials as well as some of the second issue when I was resident in the UK but I'm finding it hard to get any info on them back in Australia. Is there any interest in these? Also have many of the Third Emission notes which I find very attractive. I've been told that they are not very popular here in Australia either, but some first-hand comments from the USA on whether they are a feature in collections there would be most helpful.

Try this page.

The site does offer an English translation version and I think it might be close enough to the Australian language

Seriously try the Banco de Mexico site and there are several books on Mexican currency, but are scarce, costly, or not up to date.

Good luck my upsidedown Amigo from down under.

fcrazo: I'd be interested to know your opinion on Mexican reference books. I want the " RedBook" of Mexican coins from Spanish conquest to present day. Are there some I should avoid altogether? I've got Krause - which is pretty informative, but I want more. :)

For just basic Mexico, I would try the North American coins and prices.

Mexico's-Independence-Day-Sept-16

If you do all the way back to colonial period with less on modern then the Spain, Portugal, and the New World is the way to go
BOTH will not offer a clear view of pricing

There are more specialized books out there too:

For Mexican Republic cap and ray 8 reales then Resplendores is great but there are many more unlisted varieties being noted and talked about.

Hookneck Eagles

And there is a lot more titles out there for more serious activity, but worth having.

These are some fantastic books. The Centavo book was written by my friend and Mexican Coin Club member. He's also trying to work on another book on specific Mexican minor coins of the Republic period. I can't wait to see and have a draft of that one too.

I'll post more images of must haves (reference books)soon.

Thank you, that's very informative. I'll be picking up a Resplandores book if I ever see one for sale. Gotta update my Krause, too, I'm still in the year 2010 - although I find these prices to be okay considering the runup on PMs.
