I have had the following note since my grandfather died in 1987, he always kept it in his wallet. Over the years I had forgotten about it but came across it recently, have not been able to identify it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not an actual banknote - it's a Japanese war bond certificate. This thread has a 30 yen bond from a similar series. This older thread has some more examples, though the pics aren't as clear.

These bonds did, however, serve in a limited way as money, since everyone in Japan working for the government was forced to accept half of their salary in the form of these bonds rather than in cash.

Thank you, very much appreciated, no wonder I couldn't find it under 'banknotes'.

I do wonder why my grandfather had it though, as he was in a restricted job during WW2, so did not serve overseas, food for thought.
