Hi folks,

Picking through my change on a recent trip to England, I found an oddity: a 1-pound coin with the Scottish arms reverse of KM #967, with a date on the obverse of 1993.

Is this a known date error on this coin? Is such an error worth anything? ;)

I'm afraid the most likely situation is that your coin is a counterfeit. There are a surprisingly large number of fake £1 coins in circulation in Britain, and the counterfeiters rarely go to the trouble of matching up the reverses with the correct dates on the obverse.

Wow, interesting! More than 2% of £1 coins in circulation are counterfeit?

Having read that article now, I can confirm the poor quality of the edge lettering on this coin; and that would also certainly explain the comparatively poor strike.

Thanks for the insight!
