I wanted to solicit the opinion of this group on the value of a note in my collection.

Thank you in advance.

I hope someone with more experience comes along to help you soon. I have seen similar, newer notes selling for quite a bit. Take a look at iccurrency.com and other sites like it to see what they're selling for.

Sadly the writing will most likely devalue somewhat.

By the way, it is also a star note -- the last digit of the serial number was replaced with a star. Star notes are worth a bit, too. The combination and the age of the note could make up for the writing that's on it.

Sadly I can't tell you what you need to know about this note, all I can tell you is it doesn't appear in the print numbers of any of my books. In other words there is no Fr. 2157-K* listed. I have found a couple of other examples though on the web, but have not found out any usable info about why that note is not listed as even printed. I suspect you have a rare and valuable note there.

One thing for sure if that note were mine I would not part with it until I found out more about it.

Since I really do like a good mystery I asked a question on another forum about it and was informed that even though the books don't acknowledge it stars were printed for all 12 districts of 1950 $100 and that 36,000 of them were printed for Dallas.

If you were wondering, or even if you weren't:

A 000 00001 * - A 000 24000 * 24,000

B 000 00001 * - B 000 96000 * 96,000

C 000 00001 * - C 000 24000 * 24,000

D 000 00001 * - D 000 48000 * 48,000

E 000 00001 * - E 000 60000 * 60,000

F 000 00001 * - F 000 72000 * 72,000

G 000 00001 * - G 000 72000 * 72,000

H 000 00001 * - H 000 36000 * 36,000

I 000 00001 * - I 000 36000 * 36,000

J 000 00001 * - J 000 36000 * 36,000

K 000 00001 * - K 000 36000 * 36,000

L 000 00001 * - L 000 48000 * 48,000

But then there is also the fact that yours is a low serial true binary, which does make the value go up, and it has writing on it which in turn lowers the value. Just guessing I would think the value might be as high as 2 to 3 times face.

Again I would say to find out more about it if you plan to sell it as my opinion is just that.
