It isn't Indian. The symbol on the top photo is distinctively Ottoman Empire. I am not good enough with the script to pick out the denomination however, and I have not yet been able to match the coin with any of the other Ottoman coins. Usually they come from Egypt or Turkey.

Oops.

The symbol Ellekitty is talking about is the toughra. It's actually an ornate signature, but written in an overly decorative style such that actually reading it is nearly impossible, even for a fluent Arabic speaker. And yes, virtually all the coins with toughras on them are Ottoman Empire. But the Indian state of Hyderabad is one of several exceptions.

The date is located on the coin twice, the actual date on the obverse above the bottom stroke of the toughra, and the regnal year hidden somewhere in the reverse legend. In this case, the date appears to be 1348, which would equate to 1929/30. The regnal year would therefore be "20", but trying to find it in among all that verbiage is kind of like one of those "Where's Wally?" books.

Based on the central symbol on the reverse, the denomination of this coin is a 1/2 anna; the size should be about 30mm across.

Thanks guys!

Hyderabad was actually one of the last princely states to be integrated into the Republic of India, rather than be absorbed into India the Nizam of Hyderabad chose to remain independent. The Indians didnt like that very much, so in 1948 the Indians invaded Hyderabad and conquered it by force.
