I've always enjoyed collecting coins but recently its constantly on my mind I work with cash and I can't help look through rolls of quarters in search of coins from 1968 and earlier (silver :) ) I've been at it for about a week and a half and I've only found one silver quarter and a few deceiving dimes from 1968. is this futile? what are the chances I'm actually going to find any amount of silver in circulation? any info would be a great help

To the Forums, you are lucky to find one silver quarter in your rolls, I would say the silver in rolls are pretty well gone.

I search rolls of USA nickels and cents but have the advantage in that the obverse has remained the same for many years. So the chances of finding older coins is easier. But the whole point of roll searching for me is to find that variety that is worth much more. Since Canadian coins seem to change the monarch portrait constantly, people are more aware of the older coins, hence those are typically removed from circulation.

I just went through $700.00 worth of $0.50 coins that my local bank had in the back for the past 7 years.

The earliest I found was 1968. Needless to say, I think many Canadian coins have been picked through to an overwhelming extent.

I've gone through a few boxes of Pennies lately as well, with not much luck.

Quarters are this weekend. Wish me luck!

Stick with halves. Go to banks outside your locale. Small town banks are best. Few banks like to deal with halves and when they get them they usually get tucked somewhere. This is where I've had my greatest success when asking for rolls at the bank. I had a wonderful score about five years ago. I asked for halves at a small town bank. The girl brought out not a roll but a small bag and dumped them on the counter. Every one was silver, the oldest being 1919.

$700 in $0.50 coins what a great score I have yet to get any from a bank and I have asked around 50 times at banks. You are very lucky wish I had scored that. Good luck with the quarters.

I found a 1958 quarter in change last weekend. They are out there, I've found half a dozen or so this year (without roll searching). I also got a 1984 proof dime in change a while back, oddly enough.
