this is my earlier post with better pictures so the coins can be identified. I think I've figured out the 1st coin pictured is fake and worth little. however what variations of the 1914, 1920, and 1921 silver juan (fatman) do I have? is one 1914 variation more valuable than the other, as I have 2 types. and what is more valuable, the 1920 or 1921 juan, or are they the same in value? thanks!

i have a group of fatman chinese silver dollars. I am having trouble figuring out the variations that I have and what they are worth. I do not want to sell something rare for the price of a cheaper one if that makes sense. the strangest one is a 23.7 gram fatman with year markings I dont recognize, it is my first picture below. this coin has vertical reeding and a small magnet didnt stick to it. any idea what kinds of variations I have? is the one coin a forgery, and if so could it be worth anything? I know the years of the coins except the one, I just need to know how to figure out where the coins were made. please help? thanks in advance! these are better pictures from the ones I posted earlier, very clear. which coins should I keep and what should I sell? thanks!

I'm pretty sure the first one is a counterfeit with little or no value. The first year of issue for these coins have 6 Chinese characters on the obverse, with the second character consisting of three horizontal bars. Later years had a different second character, but also had 7 characters in total. So it's possible the rest of your coins are authentic, but I'd say the first one definitely isn't.

The fraud kind?

I'm pretty sure 99% of all chinese fat man dollars in the US are counterfeit.

Are these the lot of 6 that got $476 on ebay last night? I meant to bid on them but forgot to get a snipe on in time!

If you have any other Chinese coins to sell, do let me know - I pay good money, and will save you on the ebay fees!

yes that was my lot on ebay the other night. however some of those coins I did not sell. I actually traded the forgery back to the man I bought it from and he replaced it with a very nice coin. I still have about 6 or 7 chinese silver dollars, as well as carson city silver dollars and other stuff. I added you to my friends list on here and i'll DEF let you know when I sell more coins. was $476 a fair deal for me? just wondering. the gentleman still hasnt paid so maybe you would want that lot if he doesn't end up paying. get back to me.

$476 not too bad - though you may well have done better with that 1920 piece that was in the lot, looked like a good one. Certainly after the ebay fees, does leave it a bit low. If the buyer doesn't pay do let me know, I'm sure I could come to a deal.

I'd be interested in your 6 or 7 Chinese silver dollar you still have - if you click on my user name, you can send me a private message that goes to my email, from there you can attach pictures of them if you have any available. Though i'd definitely be interested in Carson city dollars, chances are other members of this forum who collect American coins - and there are plenty - will give you a better price than me for those.

jeff, they won't let me send you a message either, I have multiple pictures of all the chinese silver dollars I wish to sell. please send me a message with your email so I can reply to you. thanks. the other person also has said he can't pay for 2-3 more days! so we could work out a deal for some of those as well. but we must hurry so I can call ebay. thanks

You have some interesting coins there. I could be wrong - but they all appear to be forgeries. I have over a dozen DIFFERENT counterfeit varieties at present and I DO NOT EVEN COLLECT THESE.

Some of the counterfeits - especially the early ones that can be attributed to the makers are quite valuable - BUT THE MODERN cast copies that are mass produced are nearly worthless.

I would need to see clearer edge views and enlarged pictures of details to give a better opinion. Also the weight and SG needs to be verified BEFORE any Fatman dollar can be verified as a real or early variety.

xodusna - tried to PM but doesn't seem to be a link on your profile. I checked out your 20 cents listing - as the other members established, it is unfortunately a fantasy date and a fake. Feel free to pm me with any other info or coins you need help with ID
