Personally, I do not have an issue with melting old, worn coins with no serious collecting value.
If the coin is so worn the details cannot be determined, and the production amount was high, I do not have an issue with melting them for silver value.
If, on the other hand, they are in any kind of decent shape (G-4 as base), I think it best to save them.
