I was wondering how ebay sellers are able to sell PCGS graded coins so cheap. Earlier this year I decided to add some to my collection and have not spent over $5 for a single coin. Most are Presidential and Native American coins MS-65 - MS-66. I bought a set of 2010 Native American coins MS-65 (P&D - Positions A&B) for less than $10 including shipping. That's $2.50 a coin, and the min. it cost to get coins graded is $14.00. Just curious thanks.

Imagine yourself a dealer, submitting Moderns to PCGS by the box. The overwhelming majority of it comes back MS65-66, essentially worthless at auction.

But a few, just a few.....a few come back MS69 or PF70, and the "more money than brains" types line up to give you multiples of your original cost.

An SP69 Pos B Harrison sold for $895 on ebay last week. It doesn't take many of them to justify a whole pile of MS65's.

And something Superdave didn't mention is that when you submit those moderns by the box it is possible to get that grading cost down to around $7 to $8 per coin.

Then you have another group of people who couldn't properly grade a coin to save their lives. They send in a coin for grading, thinking it will achieve a high grade and be worth alot of money. Then they get it back with a grade four or five points lower than they thought and it ends up being worth less than the submission fees.

Thanks for the info guys. I still don't mind paying $2-$3 for an MS-65 or MS-66 coin that's PCGS graded.
