When I first saw these things, I thought that all of the coins were chinese fakes.... but they aren't. For some background, check out this thread. https://goccf.com/t/98448 what I posted to that thread is as follows: "I stumbled across how this photographic effect is achieved this morning. I was taking some pics of the 72 DDO that I picked up and for editing (cropping, resizing and color correction) I am using Picasa 3. After cropping, I clicked on "effects" and there are maybe a dozen views of the coin. Converting the jpeg to a "sepia" version, tweaking the contrast and brightness will get you the color. Save the image and open it up in paint.net and from the effects menu, you can select "reduce noise" and get rid of all those pesky contact marks." I am going to post some pics in a little while .... hopefully some pretty dramatic ones, that illustrate the technique being used.
