Thought the 53 might have been damaged in circulation but after a second peek....letters zab follow through and appear deeply embeded ...any thoughts on the 59..

looks to me like a planchette flaw because as you said the letter 'zab' appear to be well struck despite the huge chunk of copper missing on the obv. of the coin

I'd definitely hang onto it. Even if its not worth any sort of premium, it is still a nice show piece.
