As I am sure what I am asking and telling is not new but as I have never sold much on line until recently I find myself with some questions and issues.
First, do us Sellers have any protection at all on E-Bay regarding our right not to have to accept returns? I have run into issues with buyers changing their mind after receipt and wanting to return the item, or, they say they never received the item. It seems that E-Bay basically dictates that the buyer is right and I have no choice but to refund or accept a return. None of my refund or return issues was due to any issue other than was not received or they thought the item wasn't what they thought it was. On top of that I can not even leave negative feedback for those that should have it.

Second question, is there another auction site anyone would recommend I use that is better for the seller than E-Bay?

Thanks!

I'm a bit confused by this post...are you the seller or buyer? Because there is no better site than ebay for buyers. ebay backs the buyer 100% of the time, and does nothing to protect the seller.
I just went on a little rant about this in another thread. Even though I do not accept returns, the buyer can make up whatever lie they want about the auction or item, and ebay and paypal will immediately agree with them and force me to take the return.
Recently I sold an item (with no returns) the buyer received the item, said it hurt them when they used it, but would keep the item if I refunded part of the money. Hmmmm...it hurts you but you'll keep it if you get money back? There was never a mention that they want to return the item. Of course ebay didn't find this fishy at all and said I either have to refund part of the money or take the item back.

I've had good luck with Wensy, it's free. Paypal preferred, but not neccesary. Of 17 I've posted, 11 sold.
ebay days are over, thank God!

ebay is definitely all buyer. They are trying to keep up an Amazon like atmosphere lately. Not to mention some misleading fee increases for sellers.

You're approaching 250 posts, so you'll soon be able to sell on CCF - maybe that will take of all your problems!

Simply put, there is no other venue anywhere in the world that has the audience of ebay.

The other auction sites are nice. ebay is #21 in the world on the list of highest-traffic websites. Any questions?

So far I am all buyer, but I appreciate the ability to return COINS that have to be bought from pics on ebay. Why would you need a "no returns whatsoever" policy as a seller unless you are hiding something or don't stand behind your items for some reason? I'm sure there are a few buyers who abuse the "return" rights, but for most of us it is the only insurance we have against unscrupulous and deceptive sellers. IMO, I think there are a lot more "bad sellers" than "bad buyers" out there, domestically. Some may disagree, but with all of the coins I see overgraded and overpriced, not to mention those with deceptive pics or that have been scrubbed/altered/cleaned etc that don't admit it, IMO the buyer needs a lot more protecting on that sight than the sellers.

JMHO

I'll add that stating "no returns" in an ad on ebay is about like those grocery stores that put up big signs saying that they are not responsible for lost or stolen items etc. etc. They are INTENDED to keep the uninformed from ASKING, but legally and "practically" they are worthless and non-binding. You can say anything you want, doesn't mean that it is enforce-able or legal! I have bought a few coins from sellers who claim a "no refund" policy. have yet to need to, but I wouldn't hesitate to open a dispute if the coin wasn't up to my standards when it arrived. Too many sellers looking to rip folks off out there! I don't think there are THAT MANY buyers who think that costing sellers postage, and themselves postage costs is fun or a sport! just sayin...

ebay for sellers has become VERY dangerous territory..after selling for 12 years, over 20,000 items, I'm OUT..too many crooks...got hit by a PRO, who demanded a partial refund on a rare "AS-IS", no return sterling silver flatware sale..claimed my weight was off...I bought a brand new scale, triple-checked my original, and, there was no issue, so, I knew I was being scammed, especially when I looked into the buyer(100% feedback!) record, and found 7 feedbacks removed, and, contacted all 7 sellers, and asked them if this guy had pulled the same stunt on them...got 4 incredible replies..the biggest horror stories imaginable...he used the same MO on ALL of them(even damaged 1 guy's silver, rendering it merely melt)..and, left all of them out thousands of dollars, instant paypal deduction, frozen accounts, and, suspensions....I left this guy 2 "negs", in the positive section, to WARN other sellers, and, he had them removed, and, ebay suspended ME...of course, the guy got all of his money back..I offered to give instead of a partial refund, a FULL refund, and, he promptly left ME 2 negs, AND opened up 2 disputes, automatically forcing me as the guilty party, and, forcing a 403 dollar hold on my paypal account...it's the same story, you hear OVER and over again on ebay...the crooks know how to milk the system, and get away with murder...many of my friends have stopped selling there...once ebay stopped letting sellers leave negative feedback, all heck broke loose, and, buyers quickly learned how to milk the system, leaving good sellers like me totally helpless to fight back..this stuff rarely happened in "the old days"(about once a year, I'd get a nutbar, and have to do a refund, but, they were very rare, my return rate was like 0.05%, every year--I can't tell you how many buyers "changed their mind", once a coin was in hand, under the new system, knowing the would win every time(some buyers hope for an upgrade coin, using a negative feedback as hostage bait, knowing they cannot get one in return...if they feel it won't fly, the hit the refund button)...in a way, I'm relieved, because, worse things could have happened to me, as the stories are truly horrific for some sellers, who were merely caught in a trap ebay refuses to do anything about, as long as they make quarterly projections...plus, paypal just asked for a TAX ID number, about some new law, reporting over 200 sales, or, a certain volume of $$, saleswise, to the IRS, under a 1099 form, which REALLY made me nervous...all my sales were fairly small sales, and, a sideline thing, but, it was under the radar, like most on there...time will tell how this kind of activity will playout...methinks changes will happen, once ebay realizes how many sellers are leaving for greener grounds...it used to be fun, and, a real community...recently, I held my breath on every sale, which is no way to have to live by...ebay shot themselves in the foot on this one, bigtime...

Just a small note, the notice about the TAX ID number doesn't mean you have to give it...it just puts that message automatically once you reach a certain threshold. The certain legally required threshold is at least 200 sales AND $20,000 gross.

Unfortunately, ebay won't change. And why would they? They're making so much money who cares if they lose some sellers.
The same goes for netflix. Everyone's up in arms because they lost 1,000,000 users. But what do they care? They raised their rates from $10 to $16. They had 25 million users, now 24 million. But they're making sooooo much more money now it doesn't matter...they could lose another 6 million users and still make more money @$16 than @$10.

ebay is hard as a seller. I sent an item with tracking. It was received. Buyer claims package was ripped open (I know how it was packed, not possible without VERY purposeful effort). I the seller lose automatically despite the fact that I had refunded this exact same buyer earlier for a small value item they "never received". I lost my money and got a neg for it!

Another one where package was not received. The USPS had no tracking info on it at all. Just gone. I refund, buyer gives me a neutral. 6 week later the package gets delivered. Tracking shows it was never "received" by the USPS, just delivered. The buyer paid me back and tried to remove the neutral, but too much time had passed (and waiting on the phone for countless hours is WAY more than I have spare time for).

I'm annoyed, but unfortunately this is my only feasible option for now.

I've sold 60 or 70 error coins between $5.00 and $180.00 on ebay With a no return policy and have no problems what so ever.I take extremly very clear close up pictures of both sides of my coins so the seller knows exactly what he or she is bidding on.I'm not hiding a thing on my listings. When It sells and I ship it with delivey confirmation confirmed It's a done deal in my book.I'm not Wallmart I do not take returns or issue refunds. The day ebay wants to force me into something such as refunding, taking back items that were sold as non returnable.I'll drop them like a hot potato. They have there Rules and I have my Rules.
