on the one reale coin photoed here you can tell the strike is well off center. is this a rare error from the 1790s or would this have been a common occurance in that time frame? also what type of die press do you think was being used in that period?
It would be common and the type of press used at the time would be a manual screw press. Because there were no collars to hold the planchet directly on-center, the off center coins are actually more common than perfectly centered specimens.
