I hope whoever buys it actually receives it. The coins look good. I've never seen a coin set like that before though. strange.

I love it how he says "forgive me....I know little about coins" but in the next sentence talks about the S-VDB. The other thing I continue to gripe about all the time is, how can someone have the sophistication to start an ebay account but not know how to search "1909 cents" on Google to inform themselves? I have seen posts on many forums where someone has gone through the effort to become a member of an online forum just to ask a question that could have been more easily answered in a Google search. After a while I start to think some people do it just to waste others time.

When the buyer receives the coins I am sure their feedack will say it all. The coins look very nice, but I wouldn't buy it on ebay. Too risky for me.

It's weirdly similar to this listing. If the over-date is real and really in uncirculated condition, it would be worth it, but it's been re-listed several times with no bids, and no returns are accepted. I mean, if you win, then you send the coin to a TPG to be authenticated, and it turns out to actually be a 2010 Chinese Mercury Dyme, are you still protected by eBay/Paypal?

Quote: I take longshots all the time, just use Paypal. Actually one of the things I was wondering, can you just get your money back if not happy with the coins or is there some criteria for a refund? If these are all BU coins they are worth a ton of cash. It seems to me these will go for far lower than FMV based on the obvious looking fraud going on here.

scubu, Paypal won't protect you if you buy the pennys and send the guy money and he then withdraws the money from his Paypal account. Even if you win a Paypal dispute, they have to remove the funds from the guys Paypal account and if the money ain't there, you won't get anything back. captain, I would almost be willing to take a chance with that guy, since he seems to have 231 genuine feedback, some from very expensive items. Maybe do a google search for that site which allows you to view "real" feedback from a seller, even the stuff they've had removed from the record and as long as no red flags so up for this guy, i'd say his feedback speaks for itself. That guy with the pennys has 0 feedback. I won't even sell to someone with 0 feedback, let alone send them thousands of my hard earned dollars, hoping they send me something in return. A note to all new ebay'ers. Start off with some small purchases to get some positive feedback going before you try to sell something or make a substantial purchase.

Quote: If the over-date is real and really in uncirculated condition, it would be worth it Based on the provided photo, I have no doubt that it is genuine. The 1942/1 Merc is not a true overdate, it is actually a Class III doubled die(design hub doubling) as are all 20th century "overdates". Since it is a doubled die, there are more indicators than just the "1". Look carefully at the "4"- it is fatter than normal with clear notching on the lower right corner. IMO, the main problem with that Merc short set is that there is a nice close-up of the date but the rest of the coin is not shown. Yes, it is a genuine 1942/1 but what grade and what condition? All the other coins are essentially spot value throw-ins but the 42/1 needs to be at least an undamaged AU-55 to break even. There is no way to see if it is that grade and if it ended being only AU-50, it is only a $1000 coin.

One thing I am getting tired of is sellers using the "you be the judge" to squirm out of condition disputes.

Not to mention those who use so called "stock" photos that will be a representation of what you will receive. See photo for condition! lol

How hard would it be for them to make all of the cents facing the same way? It seems more suspicious to me due to the careless presentation...

They roll around in these cases over time. You'd have to take it apart to fix it. So, less suspicious to me. I would have tried real hard to make them look nice if I was faking it.

It's tough selling items on ebay with (0) feedback. But it doesn't mean the guy is not honest. Don't forget, we all had (0) feedback on ebay at one time. =)
