Seller Say "has Not Been Cleaned".

Most coins have been cleaned at least once during their lives, some more obvious than others. Saruma Pillar of the Community United States 968 Posts	Posted 09/29/2011 1:46 pm I was looking at that coin yesterday I think, but passed because it looked like it could have been cleaned (despite what he says). The fields are lighter than the areas around the designs. Made me suspicious. Report this Post to the Staff

However, the first picture clearly shows wipe marks(faint hairlines) in the left obv field. Report this Post to the Staff

hesgut Pillar of the Community 1028 Posts	Posted 09/29/2011 4:50 pm Well, it hasn't been cleaned....recently! It looks very un-original to me. That being said, it's not a bad piece. To find quarters that old that have never been touched as well as being in that good of shape is really tough. They also carry huge premiums. This coin retoned alright, I'd only give it a slight deduction from it's printed "value" when choosing my bids. Report this Post to the Staff
Namachieli Pillar of the Community United States 2120 Posts	Posted 09/29/2011 5:28 pm This is hard one. my first instinct says Yes its been cleaned. but the more I think about How or when it was cleaned that notion dissipates. Old dipping? No, in it's current state it was pulled from circulation, and wasn't dipped since. Scrubbed? Nope... Too much natural darkening left. Wiped? I could see that. The lightening in the fields could just have been from circulation. It does seem though, that there are hairlines in the fields but it could again just be from circulation. Any kind of cleaning this coin might have received doesn't seem consistent to other coins under the same methods. I'm inclined to say it hasn't been cleaned. Report this Post to the Staff
