Seller says has not been cleaned. It looks like it has to me. Anyone else?

Has the seller been with the coin since it's striking from the mint? Then they cannot say without conviction. Most coins have been cleaned at least once during their lives, some more obvious than others. Another reason I lean toward TPG, at least their opinion has been paid for by somebody, and I get a little warm fuzzy about it.

I was looking at that coin yesterday I think, but passed because it looked like it could have been cleaned (despite what he says). The fields are lighter than the areas around the designs. Made me suspicious.

Lighter fields in relation to protected areas is not a fool-proof way of detecting a cleaning, circulation tends to keep the fields naturally clean. However, the first picture clearly shows wipe marks(faint hairlines) in the left obv field.

That's what I saw too. I just like how he stresses, "has not been cleaned". What he should've of said maybe is, "has not been cleaned by me."

Well, it hasn't been cleaned....recently! It looks very un-original to me. That being said, it's not a bad piece. To find quarters that old that have never been touched as well as being in that good of shape is really tough. They also carry huge premiums. This coin retoned alright, I'd only give it a slight deduction from it's printed "value" when choosing my bids.

This is hard one. my first instinct says Yes its been cleaned.

but the more I think about How or when it was cleaned that notion dissipates.

Old dipping? No, in it's current state it was pulled from circulation, and wasn't dipped since.
Scrubbed? Nope... Too much natural darkening left.
Wiped? I could see that. The lightening in the fields could just have been from circulation. It does seem though, that there are hairlines in the fields but it could again just be from circulation.

Any kind of cleaning this coin might have received doesn't seem consistent to other coins under the same methods.

I'm inclined to say it hasn't been cleaned.

My first impression as well--it's been wiped sometime in recent history. If not by the seller, then by somebody else.
