The $1 bill is a standard for the poll dancing industry, substituting a coin would be difficult for the girls. But besides that I see no need for the bill when the coin will work. Drop the $1 bill and pay your girls with a $2 or $5.

The industry here has been using the two dollar note for quite a while and everyone knows it. Every time I spend or show a two dollar note, at least one person will ask where I was the night before.

This topic came up at work when several talk radio listeners picked up on the recent House bills to get rid of the dollar coin. My colleges essentially said we should get rid of the dollar coin to save money. I pointed out that we could save far more by eliminating the dollar bill and keeping the coin. Suddenly these deficit hawks changed their tune and said that saving $100 million dollars wasn't a big deal! These are people that complain endlessly about federal spending. It just shows that people are all about saving money until it effect their lives in the tiniest way.
I say eliminate the penny, nickel, and dollar bill. No one would even notice after a couple of weeks.

Deficit peacocks - it's only worthless pork when it goes to some other congressman's district.

I don't believe we will ever eliminate the paper dollar in favor of the coin, I think people are in love with the green color.

What have we proved here so far?
1. People hate change. Not pocket change - new things. 2. People will argue just to see their opinions in print.

I don't see them doing that anytime in the near future. But I did get a $2 bill just the other day and was quite surprised. I didn't know they still printed them!

This argument has been going on since the Ike dollar coins came out in 1971. The "problem" of eliminating the dollar bill always comes back to a few influential Congressmen that are in the pockets of the BEP Printers Union and the Crane Paper Company that supplies the BEP. If they quit printing dollar bills they need fewer printers (over 50% of what is printed is dollar bills and they last only 18 months!). Fewer printers and less paper means less jobs at the BEP and less sales for the single paper supplier to the BEP from New England. This is not a "Republican" or "Democrat" issue .... it's a "pork" issue thats been going on for 40+ years!

I agree with eliminating the $1 bill. Waste of money- real money.

Replace it as long as there is a need to cut back. AND there really is a need. I liked the example that Rick Santelli had on MSNBC a few days ago. Yep need to REALLY cut back. This cut back will be like saving $0.005 when owing $15,000,000.
