I purchased a 1960 LG Date cent, PCGS Graded MS64RD on E-bay. I rec'd the coin today, checked the number on the site. It was not listed. The coin was banged up pretty good, scratches on the obv in the field, and the rev. had a lot of bag marks and scratches on it. At the most from my limited experience I would say, maybe AU at best. I looked at the holder, and it doesn't look to have been broken into. My question is, are there fake slabs out there that people can purchase? And how could I tell the difference?
Thank you
James

There are major TPG slabs being faked right now but seems like an unlikely coin to be in one but you never know.....

Somebody (might as well be me) is going to jump on here and say "buy the coin, not the holder", it's true to an (bigger) extent. I prefer the safety and authentication of the the top III TPG, but they are not immune to fraud. I am pretty certain that there is a thread (or more) about fake slabs. I had an ANACS slab fall apart on me a couple weeks ago, but nothing manmade is perfect. BTW, why would someone would slab a $10 coin?

What is their return policy?

Sometimes a number gets "lost" and doesn't show up in the verification (This was more common on older slabs) If you contact customer service they can help you with verifying it and making sure it gets listed in the system. There are fake slabs out there, but I doubt there would be one for a 1960 large date cent. Also typically the serial numbers on the fake slabs DO verify because the counterfeiters tend to use legitimate serial numbers harvested off of auction website archives.

Thank you all. I contacted the seller, and he said he would accept the return and refund my money. He normally doesn't do this, but he would for me!
