Hi there, I came across this 10 cent coin which seems to have an error on the obverse. It feels smooth and is very faint. I can't make out if it says 1988 or 1989. Has anyone any information on this coin, such as what the error is called? Thanks.

I am no expert (much more a novice), but my guess would be ' Grease Filled Die'.
How does the reeding on the edge look?
I would like to see what others with a better idea say.

I am also no expert but this just looks worn? Maybe more experienced collectors will you give you a more accurate answer.

Hi Ozcoin, this picture shows the reeding, which seems to be in 'normal' condition. I'm pretty sure this is not simply worn, a ' Grease Filled Die' seems more likely. Thanks for the input so far.

Check the coin to see if the weight is normal. If it is within tolerance, then I suspect your coin was struck through a capped die and then saw some circulation which wore it down a bit.
