What kind of error is this? The picture doesn't show it so well but across the obverse there is a large crack like mark. It almost looks like it could be peeled back from the bottom upward. The reverse seems to have slightly different colouring through the middle section. Thanks :)

Ingine:

Yep! The die that struck that coin was about to die!

As far as the colouring streak on the reverse is concerned, there is a zone of different metallic crystalline structue in that area, which is almost certainly due to the failing obverse die. This is the result a zone of different compression of the metal, in the area of the die crack.

Thus, the chemistry is the metal in this area is slightly altered. This shows up as slightly different preferential patination around the area of the die crack.

Sorry about the verbosity, but I hope it helps to explain what happened.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm learning slowly! Do you think this coin is worth much?
