I just got my first Grand Canyon quarter from circulation. It's actually the first new series quarter I've seen in circulation since the Guam/Puerto Rico quarters, whatever the next series was after the State Quarters. Are they not minting that many or are they being snatched up for collecting?

The Grand Canyon quarter is part of the America the Beautiful Quarter series. In 2010, 35,400,000 Philadelphia and 34,800,000 Denver were minted for a total of 70,260,000. The ATB Quarters have been hard to find in circulation. Banks can't order them in like they could the State Quarters series. In 2010, there were: 1) Hot Springs National Park Quarter 2) Yellowstone National Park Quarter 3) Yosemite National Park Quarter 4) Grand Canyon National Park Quarter 5) Mount Hood National Forest Quarter This series is to continue on until 2021. Too many commemoratives, in my opinion. You can read about the series here: http://americabeautifulquarters.com...er-mintages/

The mint is not making nearly as many ATB Quarters as they did for the 50 State Quarters. The mint has been making about 35million ATB Quarters at each mint. The lowest mintage 50 State Quarter was the D Oklahoma at 195 million. The highest mintage 50 State Quarter was the P Virginia with 943 million! I've found a Hot Springs and Yellowstone so far in circulation. I like the constantly changing quarters. I figure that the mint needs to make new dies anyway so they might as well make it different. I find decades of exactly the same design boring.

I love the ATB coins and search for them in the boxes of quarters I get from the bank I like finding them almost as much as silver quarters, but I think that is because I find few silver quarters in my searches in comparison to the number of ATB coins I get

I've found around 13-15 of them (not of every design though). Only one of them is a 2011, a Glacier P.
One time I found 3 in one week, which is a record for me.

I've only seen maybe 2 ATB Quarters in circulation since it started. Not collecting these but I find it interesting they are hard to find in circulation. Also I won't pay a premium to get them either.

Great, thanks for the info guys. Sounds like with lower mintages, these are a bit challenging to find in circulation-but I like a challenge!

It'll be a challenge indeed.
I just picked up my Whitman album (complete P&D) from Hobby Lobby today (you can get a coupon for 40% off one item good until 10/15 from the website) and I only have 3 quarters from circulation thus far. Yikes.

Got a Vicksburg quarter this week, first of those I've seen in circulation, it's in good enough shape to go in a 2X2. :)
