This coin is about the size of a Canadian nickel dollar (32 mm diameter), appears to be copper or bronze, and looks Masonic in nature. But, it is not like any Canadian Masonic "penny" I have ever seen. It does not have the word 'penny' on it, and it has a skull and crossbones in the centre of the triangles. The reverse is a compilation of symbols, both Masonic and Christian. I would like to know exactly what this is, and an estimate on value. Thanks in advance.

"R.B.P." stands for "Royal Black Perceptory", a Masonic-style Irish-Protestant-originated secret society, akin to but separate from the Orange Order. Wikipedia.

It's worth noting that the Skull & Crossbones which is so deeply associated with pirates is originally a masonic symbol. It is often seen on old headstones in Scotland, signifying that the deceased was a Mason.
It has been suggested that pirates flew this flag in the hope that they might be treated better if captured by fellow Masons.
Unfortunately there is little factual evidence that the skull & crossbones was in common use, if at all.

Thanks everyone. Are these common tokens? My intent is to sell it, and is it something that belongs in the "junk bin" or is there a ballpark price I should be aiming for?

Although they are separate organisations - you must be a member of the Orange Order before you can be a member of the Royal Black Preceptory. The largest "Black" Parade is held in Scarva each year on the 13th of July. Last year there was about 120,000 at it -- parking was a nightmare :)

It must be worth something over junk value. It's interesting, quite old maybe, still has some luster to it, really nice coin IMO.

So far, I have 34 different ones. There are actually very few variations, the main differences is the number and location.

I just sold one for $15, and talked to a guy at the coin show today, and he said that they usually go for from $15-$20 in very good condition. You will surely get more if you take it to the town it came from.

It's a long shot since this is an old post and you talked about selling it but do you still have this or know who does? I grew up just outside Ameliasburg and am trying to find this token
