Would be great to find super rare coins all the while
but this one has taken about 20 years, My father however did find a FANTASTIC Allectus with a temple on, He no longer has the coin but he has some negative photos, It reminds me to get some pictures of them.

I asked on another forum and one of the answers I received was: Hi, Interesting coin. Having spoken to Sam from the BM over the years he has expressed an interest in significantly increasing their holdings of types that aren't currently represented so it doesn't surprise me. The value? It would be so difficult to estimate given the rarity. Regards, Soooo, it seems your coin is perhaps more rare than an R2 rating might initially indicate. If you read the thread about Rarity, you will see that rarity in this corner of collecting is much different than in modern coins. Bobbyhelmet put it best when he said "The RIC numbers do need to be taken with a huge pinch of salt, like said earlier they are perhaps useful for relative rarity to other coins in the same book but thats about it. I would suspect R4s and R5s sell daily on ebay for just a few pounds as nobody is looking for these minisculey different common issue coins. It is also important to understand if it is the coin that is rare or the issue, a coin population made up of 1000s of slightly different 'rare' issues will be less desirable than a common coin that only came in one issue" I've still got my feelers out for a value to place on your coin, but like I have said in past threads, value is so subjective. If we don't come up with a value play coy and do not accept their first offer. I remember an old Danny Kay movie where he just stayed silent while others made him offers. He was successful! I hate to seem a singer with only one song but a rare coin is not the same thing as an expensive coin. This goes doubly when the rarity is based on some minute variation of mint mark or other detail. What makes a coin valuable in a cash sense is how many of us are willing to get into a knock down dragout fight over the thing if it were to come to auction. In this case with the British Museum having shown an interest in the coin, any interest I might have had disappeared. It belongs there. Perhaps there are several specialist Carausius collectors that would like to have the coin but what we have here is a 3/4 complete rough and ugly study specimen. It is not the sort of thing that gets big action from the crowd that drives up EID MAR denarii. I would be interested in knowing what the BM value of the coin is. I suspect it would be fair. I might even ask them if they would consider trading even for a good looking but more common Carausius which would be equally enjoyable to a collector like me (Not a Carausius specialist - I have 3 of his coins).
The coin IS a really good find but that does not mean the college educations of your grandchildren have been covered. Any coin that adds to the database of knowledge on any subject is a really good find. Congratulations (and please do tell us what they give).

Talking of EID MAR denarii, what happened to the ex-robocop one that had lots of press coverage last month? Did it sell for near the huge estimates? I cant seem to find out any info on the net.

Ive had a couple of offers for the coin but I am going to bide my time, Here is what the Museum said today:-
Dear Paul,
I will get an estimate valuation this end from someone who helps with Treasure cases.
So I will hopefully find out soon
