I have a 1922 Peace dollar that was "untombed" from a clear plastic cube (Lucite, maybe?) used as an award. It appears to have been chromed or plated, because it is quite shiny, and the coin's imperfections -- nicks, dings, scratches -- have been "smoothed" a bit. Questions:
> Can the chroming/plating be undone or removed?
> If so, how? (And is it an everyman's task, or a professional's?)
> If not, what is the impact of the chroming/plating on the dollar's value?
Many thanks for your responses.

It is entirely possible that the coin has been buffed to a high gloss, not plated. If it is plated, there is no way to undo it. If it is only buffed/polished, then it is worth silver spot value. It is more difficult to venture a guess for a plated coin but it would be doubtful that you would get full spot value for it.
