There are 40% silver halves (1965-1970) and Ikes (1971-1976) but I heard it's just S mint. I have two Ikes, don't know if their silver or not. Thanks.

Sorry, I'm Canadian

I believe the easiest way to figure out if you have a silver "S" Ike dollar is to weigh them. The 40% silver ones should weigh 24.6 Grams while the regular copper/nickel Ikes only weigh 22.7 Grams. I'm sure there are other ways to figure it out but that seems to be the most simple.

All Uncirculated S-Mint Ikes are 40% silver clad but the proofs are a bit trickier. 1971-S and 1972-S proof Ikes are silver as there were no CuNi clad proofs minted for those two years. 1973-S, 1974-S and 1976-S proof Ikes were available in both compositions and there were no silver issues after the Bicentennial. Mint-issued 1975 Ikes do not exist in any composition.

Am I correct that all "brown" and "blue" Ikes are 40%?

Yes, and for those that do not know what you are talking about, Brown and Blue refer to the color of the Original Government Packaging(OGP) as the non-Bicentennial silver Ikes were sold individually in special packaging. The Silver Bicentennials were sold in 3 coin sets only(Unc and Proof). If an Ike is in a proof set with the cent through half dollar denominations, it is CuNi clad by default.
