http://www.ebay.com/itm/20065821088...refresh=trueI hate it when I'm the only bidder on an item. Makes me think that I missed something everyone else saw.. I see a coin with fantastic detail, very little wear, and what I thought was luster in the fields. Now I'm wondering if the "luster" is off and perhaps it's whizzed or recolored. I'm still pretty much a novice when it comes to old copper.. So I'm curious what everyone thinks about this one.. Comes with a 14 day return policy. Thoughts?

Those Half Cents just don't buy as much as they use to!

Thoughts? OK. You, sir, just scored. Like a boss. I think the coin is overlit (a common ebay photography mistake) and will be darker and more homogenous in-hand. I_do worry a bit about the area around the date; seems to be some crud there which might be the result of an incomplete cleaning. OTOH, this sure looks like a Mint State coin, which is worth rather more than you paid even in Details grade. Heck, even at AU58 Details you're even-money with no downside.

One thing I've noticed about ebay is that people don't like high starting bids. For some reason people that would happily pay $200 in a bidding war won't make an opening bid of $116.

That's what I thought too Dave.. I didnt see any wear on it -- I was thinking slider at worst. It was a decent photo a from a seller with a lot of feedback. And the auction ended on a Friday night. Maybe it was just my time to get lucky on ebay :) I'll post pics when she arrives. I hope it really has a bit of the blue toning as shown in the photo.. Might it was just lack of light.. We shall see.

Yeah, people won't bid much when it has a high 'start' price. I think you made a good gamble that can turn out mildly ahead at very worst.

Really nice purchase. Think of it this way...you were willing to pay more too.
I've actually had a couple of Friday night auctions turn out well for me on the buy side, as well as higher starting bid ones.

with Saruma. People see to automatically pass by coins set at a high but reasonable minimum price. Sometimes you can score a nice deal because of this.

Yea this was a nice purchase. I would say its right around AU-50. Good price, other than that rim nick, looks to be fairly problem free. Nice grab.

Holy killer deal Batman! You paid an XF price for a minimum AU coin. Go buy a lottery ticket.
