Hi! Uploaded the pics because I'm not sure of it's authenticity.
Posted some personal questions and opinions. I would appreciate it if you can answer them. Feel free to put in your comments. Thanks!

Weight - 6.15 grams - Is this possible? according to Krause the original weight should be 6.76 grams. Can the .6 variance be attributed to circulation considering its overall appearance?

The YII stamp is incomplete. Looks like a 5-4-1 pearl formation. The cross and some of the pearls are missing maybe because the stamp was unevenly imprinted. The lower right part part (the Y) seems to be deeper. Another factor can be the uneven surface of the coin (the caps and rays)

The line on the edge of the coin seen on top of "Mexicana" is a product of the scanner. The coin does not have a line on the edge. Laurel leaves encircles the coin and are somewhat evenly worn out. (I'll post some pics of the edge once I have the camera)

Hi Pandesalapi!

Thanks a lot! I can sleep soundly now hehe By the way, I saw that your selling a magnificent Manila 1828 piece in ebay. Nice coin! Its uncommon to see one that has the complete MANILA 1828 Inscription.

I do have a question regarding Manila 1828 counterstamps.
About the 2nd A in manila, isn't that the 2nd A normally has an incomplete head? (head looks like its a bit sliced off)
What if you come a across one that has a complete 2nd A? will you consider it a counterfeit?

I'm asking because one sample that has a complete 2nd A can be found in page 27 of Dr. Oropilla's book. Recently I came across one that is strikingly similar to it. The parts where it was weakly stamped is the same and of course it has a complete 2nd A.

I can post a pic of each specimen.

cheers!

Pics of the Manila 1828 "Complete" 2nd A

Specimen that can be found in Dr. Oropilla's book in page 27

Specimen that I stumbled upon.

Notice that both coins are strikingly similar. Especially the completeness of the 2nd A in MANILA. Even parts of weakness in the impression is quite similar.

Coin that I found in an internet auction. Also has the "complete" A

Pics of the "Sliced off" 2nd A

My hypothesis why there is "sliced off" A is because of a damaged or worn out die. Coins that were counterstamped earlier had the "complete" A while later counterstamped coins had the "sliced off" A. I also noticed that counterstamped coins that have the "sliced off" A normally have less serrated borders. These serrations deteriorated with every punch of the die thus a worn out die has a less serrated border.

You hypothesis is the same as my wild guess. Notice the completeness of serifs on 2nd letter "A" - IMHO are all first strikes and you will also notice that most 1828 Manila bearing complete incriptions of letters and 1828 date do have (as you have said) "sliced off" letter A. This fact could mean that the workers who fed manually the annealed coins became accustomed to turning the screw press thus producing almost perfect counterstamp complete inscriptions through a repaired pile and trussel. Ergo such recently repaired dies shows the effect on deteriorated serrations. This could also be the reason why there exist Manila CS type 2.

Awesome coin!

The 8R was the workhorse for trade in the orient but obviously some 2 reales also made it over there.
