I've been trying to teach myself to learn to recognize various types of coin varieties that are more valuable than the standard type of coin. Right now I'm trying to teach myself to pick out bronze 1864 type L Indian Head cents that are worn to the point that the L is gone. I know the diagnostic character is the shape of the breast (pointy vs. rounded), but I'm still trying to recognize them in the real world.

Could you help me out by looking at the following 3 images and let me know if each on is an "L" or "no L". By the way, I'm sure the last coin is bronze (it looks a little light in the picture but in hand it is clearly bronze).

Thanks for any opinions and help!

with-L, too dark to show up on my screen, no-L.

what helped me was pouring through hundreds of pictures of 1864 indians from the Heritage website. Pictures are amazing, they are all slabbed and you can sort by grade.

Thanks. I've tried to lighten up the middle picture some, so hopefully it is easier to see now. Other opinions are very much welcome.

The Heritage idea is a great one! I thought they only dealt with high end coins, but I went to check and I can see they have some as low as AG in their archives.
