Thanks DV (and Condor!). I spent virtually all of yesterday studying L vs. no L cents (my girlfriend thinks I'm nuts, but I'm sure fellow numismatists can relate!). I've actually come to the conclusion that even the
TPG's sometimes get it wrong on very worn coins (based on Heritage sales). There are a few slabbed L's that have very rounded busts that are identical to the no-L's. Anyway, I can call about 3/4 of them with confidence now, but there are still a fair number that seem to rounded to be an L, but too pointy to be a no-L.
I'm pretty certain that is an L. The trick I found is that if the top line of the bust ends in the point it is an L. If the lower line of the bust ends in the point it is a no-L. I know it is pretty worn and almost certainly cleaned, but I got it pretty cheap and I will probably try to resell it for a profit on
ebay. Not a big profit, but I want to get into buying coins and reselling them for a profit on
ebay (or here if the coin would be the type people here might want, which this one probably isn't due to condition). I'll start small with coins like this before moving on to higher cost, but higher reward coins.
