These coins are worth less than the "Cents" variety because a rumor circulated at the time that the earlier "no cents" coins would be pulled from circulation, so the people saved these coins, many of which were still in great condition. Therefore, they are worth less than the later version, which most of the people overlooked.

These were saved as a novelty when they were first introduced ... the subsequent 1883 w/Cents version was not ... hence the w/Cents version is more expensive today in higher grades.
