Quote: Must be nice to be on call with the bank tellers, I'll bet that helps a little?... My friend is about to retire from an engineering job with a prominent company everyone is familiar with (but for sake of his wanting anonymity to the max, I will not say which company or this would tell people where he is). I asked him how he got a teller to watch out for him. He told me when he went to the bank initially, he went straight to the top and told them what he wanted to do. He asked them how much $$ he would have to keep in an account so that they would order that many coins for him. He became well known at the bank for the large volume of coins he was getting weekly. Needless to say he has had some stunning finds as far as individual halves go since he has been doing this for a couple of years now. He also showed me a box of probably 20 slabbed MS walkers (no keys - but still nice). But he also told me there were a few times he backed off the halves since he was sure he was getting repeats. But since he was there so often, and the tellers know what for, they call him for anything that shows up like this. I am sure it helps he has a very amiable personality and rewards the tellers. edited for sytax

Sorry - I wish I could get pics - but, as I said in the initial start of this thread, I had no camera with me. Since he lives quite a distance away, I only make it up there about once every two years or so :(

That is amazing! Most of the banks here must turn away customers that wish to cash in collectible coins (policy). THe ones that do make it in, get snatched up by the all the tellers in the know. They call me with the butchered remains.

On the uglier side, I think it is so sad that somebody dishonest or maybe a family member who did not know a thing about coin values, just rolled up Daddy's coins and took them to the bank for paper money or to deposit to cover some bills that need paid.

My friend and I got onto the same subject and he said he once knew of an older (not hurting for money) collector who decided he just wanted to release his collection "into the wild" so others could have the same joy that he had with them over the years. Although probably not likely, we can only hope this is what happened here.

I've felt the older collectors watching over me lately... I found an AU 1943 P War Nickel a couple weeks back, and am sure it was a gift from the coin gods.

Yup, that's another amazing success story! See what happens, make nice with tellers, they give back to you in kind!
