RP is the sh...tuff. Love it. Love it! IMO the most interesting US Mint concept in a long time. I'd like to know who came up with it so I could personally thank them.

Are we at 3 ASE RPs now? 4? 2006, 2011 and 2012? any others?

What would it take to get standard issues in RP? Obviously too late for the 2009's but... I think there are lots of current coins that would really do well with the RP treatment.

Whoops, straying off topic. Sorry. I think the 2009's Lincolns would look great in RP. Heck, I think any coin would look good RP. But the ASE RP is absolutely gorgeous!

Amen lol.

We are at 3 silver RPs right now and some of the gold eagles have been in RP too not sure how many.

I hope they can figure out a way to get the standard issues into an RP. RP kenndy half would be amazing, would have loved to seen an old RP nickel design too but the new one would be interesting. The 09 lincoln designs would have been great candidates for an RP too

There was also a Platinum Reverse Proof in 2007.

The 2009 mintages weren't even close into the billions. Here they are:
http://www.coinnews.net/2010/01/20/...-production/

 Denver Philadelphia
Birthplace Cent 350,400,000	284,400,000
Formative Years Cent	363,600,000	376,000,000
Professional Life Cent	336,000,000	316,000,000
Presidency Cent 198,000,000	129,600,000
Jefferson Nickel 46,800,000 39,840,000
Roosevelt Dime 49,500,000 96,500,000
DC Quarter 88,800,000 83,600,000
Puerto Rico Quarter 86,000,000 53,200,000
Guam Quarter 42,600,000 45,000,000
American Samoa Quarter 39,600,000 42,600,000
U.S. VI Quarter 41,000,000 41,000,000
N. Mariana Islands Quar 37,600,000 35,200,000
Kennedy half Dollar 1,900,000 1,900,000
Native American $1 33,880,000 37,380,000
Harrison Pres $1 55,160,000 43,260,000
Tyler Pres $1 43,540,000 43,540,000
Polk Pres $1 41,720,000 46,620,000
Taylor Pres $1 36,680,000 41,580,000

The main ones to be aware of are the nickel and dime mintages. Even saved in the millions, they will still carry a premium higher than other years, simply for the fact that they aren't seen in circulation, so the perception will be that they are rare and will cost more. Hence it'll drive up their price for many years to come. They won't be as high as in 2009, but they will carry a higher premium than other years. And I think that is what the OP was looking for.

I just wish the formatting was better in that table.

If you edit your post, you will see that I added the code tags (

) around the table. This forces it to render in a fixed monospace font and not remove redundant spaces.

Regardless of how many of any coins are minted, a thing called popularity makes them either scarce or not. Also, sort of makes them expensive. If people keep saying coins dated in 2009 will be expensive, rare, difficult to find and if enough believe that, for a while they will be expensive. Eventually as more of the hoarders release their stashes, the prices would drop. Those 2009 Linocoln Cents started a sort of popularity thing in Numismatics and many people that know little to nothing about coins ran out and grabbed them. Dealers too hoarded them in rolls. And not knowing for sure what this is all about, many people just grab any coin dated 2009.
Watch and see what happens with the 3009 coins.

The reason that I started this thread is that the nickels and dimes are still hard to find out in circulation and thus people tend to think that they are rare.

Wquin's posting shows what the population is.

In relationship to other coin mintages the entire year just wasn't highly coined. According to one source I've read (which I forget who it was) the mint stopped making nickels and dimes sometime around April or May. So that's why I save this year especially. The numbers just are not there for a circulating coin.

Don't forget that 2009 was especially hard hit by the recession and as such the mint didn't coin a lot for circulation.

I just haven't found a lot and I was wondering if other members might think that I'm wasting my time.

I dont think well see them circulated for quite some time. My theory is the majority are being hoarded as other people saw the low mintage by comparison. While it is a lot lower than other years its still about 40 million from each mint. I dont think theyll command a premium, but I dont think youre wasting your time pulling them. Worse case theyre worth face so you dont have anything to lose.

That's the way that I figure it. The only thing that I'm wasting now is just time.

(edit) It's not like I'm hoarding gold pieces.

If your anything like me the time isn't even a total loss as the roll searching or whatever is somewhat enjoyable, at least until your eyes start to hurt lol

With all modern coins I think only the higher grades will bring a premium in the years to come and that could even take a while. Anything in circulated condition the mintages are just to high for our standard coins imo unless your looking for like 70 years down the line for your kids

Look at the 1944 penny, nearly the same mintage.. obviously I would love to have some of those now! so no matter how long it takes, some day they will be coveted! I guess we are doing it for the kids and grandkids! because in 70 years I will be 100. And most likely long gone!

On some levels with moderns thats certainly the case in terms of getting them to be high valued. At least well get to enjoy them in the meantime
